如何準備LPI考試

LPI (Language Proficiency Index)是一項測試英文寫作能力的考試, BC省許多大學及學院均要求學生提供 LPI考試成績. 最具代表性的為UBC. UBC大學學生必須在第二年開學前 LPI考試通過level 5, 才有資格修英文及許多大學基本課程. SFU及 Victoria則須通過 level 4. 許多UBC大一學生考了很多次, 始終徘徊於 level 3和 level 4, 只好轉到其他college讀, 或等到通過 level 5, 再重回UBC選課, 一來一回, 就浪費了一兩年. BC省許多公立college也要求學生通過 level 4. 如果你想從事地產經紀也必須通過 level 4. 可見 LPI對學生的重要性.

1. LPI考試內容包括:
A. Sentence Structure(句型結構)--- 10 points
B. English Usage(英文字辭用法) --- 10 points
C. 閱讀測驗--- 20 points
兩個短文多重選擇題及三個短文每篇寫3句摘要
D. Essay Writing (作文)—3個題目選出一個寫 300~400 字 --- 40 points
其中最重要的為作文. Essay Writing是最主要的評分依據(Level 0 - 6),其他項目僅供參考.
考試時間 2.5 小時.

2. 作文評估標準:
Level 5 essay 允許一點(a few )錯誤.
Level 4 essay 允許一些 (some)錯誤.
Level 3 essay會有許多 (many)錯誤. 某些錯誤頗為嚴重(quite serious).
( “serious” error 係指一串字錯誤而非一個字錯誤.)
- 作文評估係採扣點方式, 亦即錯誤越多扣點越多. 好的策略是不用不確定的文法, 不用未熟悉用法的字, 減少扣分.

3. LPI 的其他資訊
- 報名費 CAD 47元
- 考完試 3-4週將收到成績通知
- 考試時必須攜帶 6個月內護照用照片一張及有照片的 ID.
